Race of the Day

- Today's (occasional) race of the day features the 6th from Gulfstream, a $12,500 claiming sprint for older horses that had never won twice. Prospect Way was 5-1 in the morning line, but was punched down to 6-5 at post time. He was coming off two good efforts including having graduated from a 15K maiden event in his last at Turfway. In fact, all of his six lifetime starts were either on the grass or the Poly. There's just gotta be better ways to invest one's money.

Dennis's Dream opened up a big lead on the backstretch, but Prospect Way, with Kent Desormeaux, closed in on the turn, accompanied by 13-1 Daiton's Destiny inside of him. The two collared the leader in tandem in upper stretch, and were soon joined on the outside by the 3-1 second choice Playful Pal. The three of them were strung out at the sixteenth pole, and as they approached the wire, there was a bumping incident that you really need the head on to see (or at least I do). (And you can see the head on at the Cal Racing site.)

Daiton's Destiny came out, bumping Prospect Way and knocking him sideways; in fact, the favorite took a little stumble sideways, bumping into Playful Pal. The latter hung on to win the race anyway, and Daiton's Destiny, who crossed the wire a nose ahead of Prospect Way, was disqualified and placed second, thereby saving the chalk exacta players (or at least those of whom reversed it).

My question is this (and this isn't a quiz, I'm asking if anyone knows because I don't): If Prospect Way had won the race, would he have then been disqualified for bumping Playful Pal, even though it was caused by his being bumped by the inside horse, and thus wasn't really his fault?
