- 8th-Pole posted about the win by Librettist in the Prix Du Moulin at Longchamps over the weekend. This four-year old son of Danzig is now undefeated since coming back from over a year on the sidelines. The Racing Post notes that it is only the fourth Group/Grade 1 win worldwide for Godolphin in 2006, compared to nine last year and 11 in 2004. Tough year! Librettist is considered a prime candidate for the Breeders Cup Mile.
This colt is a son of Danzig, out of a winless mare by Alleged, and he's a half-brother to Dubai Destination, winner of the G1 Queen Anne. Both Librettist and Dubai Destination were bred by Calumet Farms and purchased by Godolphin, the latter for $1.5 million. Dubai Destination stands at Darley in the UK for $20,000 pounds

Librettist was a somewhat surprise entry this weekend. After his previous win, Godolphin had announced their intent to run him next in the Queen Elizabeth (vs. George Washington & Co.). And prior to this weekend, they had never mentioned Librettist and Breeders Cup in the same breath. Very strange, because they had already mentioned the Mile for Iffraaj, and Librettist is clearly the better of the two. Anyway, Dettori mentioned the Mile after Librettist's win on Sunday, and Godolphin mentioned "international objectives", so i guess they've pretty much made it official now. It's worth noting, however, that Godolphin has had some trouble recently getting their talented BC Mile types into the starting gate. Librettist's brother Dubai Destination (a star miler in his own right) never made the race, and of course Dubawi couldn't make it last year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
